when you don’t love your body.
Figuring out what to wear for boudoir portraits is hard enough to start with, but when you’re not in love with your body, it becomes even harder. Â It’s for this reason we not only send you a lingerie guide, but also have a really good chat about what to bring along.
However, the natural urge is to be inclined to want to cover up more. So whilst I’m saying “bring a fab bra and knicker set”, you’re thinking “but I’d feel a lot more comfortable in a onesie”.
Because of course you’re the person that we haven’t encountered before – the one who can’t look awesome in lingerie. Except, you’re not. I’m not recommending a bra and knicker set because I’m on a mission to get you to expose your stomach and fall in love with your stretch marks (although you can if you want!).
I’m recommending the item of lingerie that I know you will almost certainly need for certain poses – and they’re the poses you are going to like the most. They’re the poses that will make you fall in love with all of you.
Now, you might be really lucky and have a chest that doesn’t disappear into your armpits as soon as you lie down. If not, then that’s why you need a bra and knicker set. A corset might cover up the dreaded tummy, but it’s not going to be doing a stand up job for you when you lie down.

So, you need three different outfits, and one of them needs to be a bra and knicker set – only two to go!
If you’ve already thought about what to wear for boudoir portraits, you may have looked at corsets and basques (and figured out the difference). It’s really down to personal choice here. You want one outfit that offers a little more coverage, so that for standing images, you’re feeling comfortable – as much as anyone has ever felt comfortable in a corset ;-).
Babydolls can be a great option, especially if you fall into the camp of needing support as many of them come with cups. Let us not pretend that boobs never droop. If yours do (join the club!) then anything you bring needs to be uplifting, so avoid things like chemises unless they’re looking ok with a bra underneath them, or will work with a strapless bra.
For coverage that hints at what’s underneath, there are many stretchy, lacy dresses around that will look amazing. The Britney dress from Ann Summers is a really popular choice. The benefit of these is that if you also happen to hate your upper arms, they give coverage here too – one less thing to think about!

For your third outfit, it’s as easy as deciding whether you’d prefer another bra and knicker set, or another corset/basque/babydoll/whatever you chose. It’s all about variety, but that can come from colour as much as style, so if you found the perfect set, and it came in another colour you love, go for it!. As long as you’ve got your one outfit with more coverage sorted, you’ve got everything you need.
Don’t love your bum? The most flattering knickers to wear are Brazilian or cheeky cut – stay away from thongs and full knickers.
Don’t love your legs? Grab some stockings (don’t worry about not having a suspender belt or straps, stockings will stay up long enough for a photo to be taken) and stick to dark colours – black fishnets always work well, and killer heels will finish the look.
The main thing to know is that when we’re planning your session together, we will take note of your likes and dislikes, talk through with you everything to do with what to wear for boudoir, and every pose will be designed to work fabulously for you. There is no part of you that you need to worry about – it really is all down to us to ensure we create images for you we know you’ll love.
Much love,
Anna
