Welcome to the seventh week of our 'Summer of Self-Love' project
Each week throughout the summer, I'll be giving you one suggestion of something to do to enrich either your mind, body or soul.
I'm sharing a weekly video on our Facebook page each Monday, with that week's idea.
However, I don't like watching videos, so in case anyone else feels the same way (which is basically 'Why can't I just read it?'), each Wednesday, I'll be doing a blog post like this, one, where you can either read what to do, or watch the video (just scroll down).
Drink More Water
Welcome to week 7 of 'Your Summer Of Self-Love'. This week we're back to thinking about and appreciating our bodies. And our bodies have pretty simple needs really. Although we know what we should be doing for them, doing it is a different matter.
This week is all about focusing in on just one of those needs – water.
I've done a bit of research into water intake, because all over the place, you see recommendations that your daily water intake should be 6-8 glasses of water. It used to be stated that tea or coffee wasn't included, but now there's evidence to suggest they're just as hydrating, and also there are sports drinks which are specifically designed to be hydrating.
But there's also some stuff that debunks the whole '8 glasses a day' idea. So the good news is, I'm not going to be recommending you suddenly ditch every other drink that you have in place of water (because that's hard work).
If water is already your main drink, then this week is going to be easy, because you're doing this naturally, so this week, you can just give yourself a really big pat on the back. For the rest of us, I'm going to suggest that you swap one drink of the day for water, or tea or coffee, but without milk and sugar – whichever you prefer.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a Diet Coke addict, and swapping one of my treasured cans for water instead is going to be a trial. But I also like a beer at the end of the day, so I have to choose which drink I'm going to swap out. (Hint - it's probably not going to be Diet Coke...)
A little bit of this is also about habit breaking, so don't just think, "right, I haven't had water today, I'm going to have a glass now". We tend to have patterns to when we have a drink, whether it's during a break at work, or with an evening meal so the idea behind this is to, for a week, swap one of those regular, routine, 'I do this every day' drinks for water. It's not solely about increasing water intake - we have a multi-purpose week this week!
Let me know how you get on and I'll see you next week.
