I would like to start off by saying, Jean had one of the most dramatic & immediate changes in self-confidence and body image I have ever seen. When I first met Jean, she was a bundle of frantic nerves with a huge coffee stain down her jumper who was thinking "what on earth am I doing?", and was just about ready to sprint out of the studio. When we went through photos to find out what she did and didn't like, she didn't believe me when I said she could and would look sexy and beautiful, and you should have seen the face she gave me when I asked if she wanted to do any art nude portraits...
When Jean first got in contact with us she said "I've lost 6 stone in weight and now have body dysmorphia, I'm trying to see myself in a different way." After going through a dramatic weight loss and having surgery to remove excess skin, Jean needed some help - both to see the difference that had made, and also to reconnect with her body.
I was very pleased to see Jean again before the end of her session, when I assisted with posing and lighting for the art nude portraits she had found the courage to do.
At her viewing, before seeing her photos, she was smiling ear-to-ear because she was so excited to see them. Since her session, she had gone out and bought new make-up, having loved how she looked in the session so much. She was practically floating on a cloud of new found self-confidence!
The Embrace Your Body Project is all about empowering women to love themselves and their bodies, as they are, right now.
It's about embracing our bodies, whatever flaws we may think we have, and accepting ourselves.
It's about showing that nobody is perfect, but that we are all beautiful in our imperfections.
And it's about sharing that experience with other women, to help them on their journey to body confidence.
