When you're not seeking to look younger, sexier or different, and just want to find you again, how do you go about it?
For most of our clients, a body confidence photoshoot isn't about some wild transformation, it's about reclamation. Of themselves.
It’s easy to lose your sense of self when you’ve spent so long looking after everyone else that your own needs haven’t just been put on the back burner, they’ve boiled dry. What’s left is a scorched-out version of who you used to be.
Certainty about who you are, so solid in the freedom of youth, can quietly vanish as you get older. You’ve got the power to make more decisions. But with power comes responsibility. And responsibility is bloody exhausting.
You're left with a strange kind of wistfulness as you remember who you were, but can't quite fathom how much of that still applies.
So, how do you get back to you?
I was stuck in “who the hell am I? having lost the connection with self and all my core beliefs and self-esteem.
I was doubtful they could possibly make anything of me - I could be their first failure!
Ann
Sometimes, it starts with, quite literally, going back.
Dusting off the music you used to love. The stuff that made you feel something before life got so depleting.
Trying on the perfume you wore at uni. Watching the films you obsessed over. Rummaging through old memories and paying attention to the ones that spark even just a prickle of nostalgia.
That prickle is like a trail of breadcumbs, reminding you that you are still in there, of who you were.
The trick then, is not to dwell.
Reminiscing - good.
Wallowing - not so much.
Use your memories of your younger self as a catalyst to connect with yourself now. She may not be who you see in the mirror, but she's right there with you anyway.
How a body confidence photoshoot helps
When it comes to reconnecting with yourself, the first step is to take other people out of the equation, and focus on yourself. Now, this doesn't always come naturally - doing something that's just for you can feel selfish, alien and take you out of your comfort zone.
Bizarrely, the fact that a body confidence portrait session is likely to be an extremely long way outside of your comfort zone can make that first bit the easiest hurdle to overcome.
Once you're with us, we only care about you. We're not concerned with what anyone else wants from you or how anyone else perceives you - there's just you, how you feel and what you want. In a completely pressure-free way.
One of the many reasons our clients describe their time with us as liberating is precisely because the freedom to think, just for a while, just about yourself, is rare for women.
Women come to us thinking they will be under some kind of pressure to perform. In reality, we want to give you the space to just be. It's not your job to look great in photos. It's our job to take great photos that help you reconnect with the woman in the mirror.
When you're ready to chat, there’s no pressure, no expectations - just an honest conversation about whether this could help you reconnect with yourself.
You can email us any time, or fill in a contact form here.
Much love,
Anna
