It's not only your lingerie that's important for your boudoir portrait session - you need to think about shoes for boudoir too.
Now, many of you are shoe addicts, so I'm very much preaching to the converted when I say the best shoes for boudoir are the tallest, thinnest heels you can find.
On the other hand, these words may strike fear into your heart as you realise you won't be able to walk. Fear not! You're not coming here to run a marathon - you may well be sitting or lying down a lot of the time. In some images your shoes may even be a mere accessory.
Even if you are wearing them, you don't need to walk anywhere and if you're wobbling slightly, well, there's a fast lens on the camera, so you won't be a blur in your photos.
If you're not a fan of heels, there are definitely plenty of images where you can be shoeless - they're not an essential throughout your portrait session.
For more relaxed shots, you may want to be barefoot (or even long socks can look cute).
For standing images though, you stand very differently in heels to how you stand flat footed. They elongate the leg, do all sorts of great things to your thighs, and tuck your bum under. Even if your feet are out of shot, you will almost certainly get a more flattering look standing in heels than without.
As well as thinking about the heel, the style of shoe makes a difference too.
Styles to consider
Court shoes
Thigh high boots
'Barely there' strappy sandals
Styles to avoid
As a rule, I would suggest avoiding ankle straps - these tend to cut through your ankle at its thinnest point, just when you're wanting to show it off.
Wedges - although I'm a big fan of wedge heels, they can look clumpy with lingerie.
Shoe boots - again can cover the line of your ankle.
Open toes - if you're wearing stockings or hold ups, beware seam lines.
What to do if you never wear heels
You don't need a closet full of the highest Louboutins, for sure. You can borrow from a friend or even consider trawling charity shops - many an ill-considered shoe purchase ends up, unworn, in a charity shop. You can even donate them back once you've had your portrait session.
Or look at sites like Everything £5 to grab a short term bargain.
If you happen to have some completely funky shoes that break the rules - bring them anyway - they could be amazing!
Much love,
Anna
