Why killer heels are a boudoir must have

I have to confess that I love shoes. If I have spare cash, the Irregular Choice website is always calling to me. I don't worry too much about an outfit - to me it's the shoes that make it, and up until the 52 Selfies Challenge, if I was going to post a selfie, it would have been of my feet.

No wonder then, that I'm keen to talk shoes at your pre-session chat.

There's sound reasoning behind me recommending killer heels for your portrait session, and it's all to do with:

1. How you stand in heels

2. How they look with lingerie

The fact of it is that you stand differently in killer heels to how you stand in flats/barefoot.

So when we're talking shoes at your pre session chat, I will encourage you to bring those heels that sit at the back of the wardrobe, just waiting to be worn. The ones that you look at and then think "no, I can't wear those, I'll break an ankle". Those are the shoes that are perfect for your session! This is their chance to shine!

If they happen to have a certain shade of red on the sole, then there are certain images that will show that off too.

Now, I'm a big fan of wedge heels. I find them comfortable to wear, even if they're really high. They don't work as well for boudoir as stilettos do though - they can tend to look a little 'clumpy' when you're wearing so little.

Some shoe boots can work well too, but a classic court shoe will always be a winner (although thigh high boots can be amazing too).

Don't worry if you find it hard to balance in heels - you can carry them into the studio and only put them on for your photo to be taken - if you're wobbling, that's not going to be caught on camera.

There are definitely times when being barefoot is going to work for you too, it's not all about the shoes (unless you are), but if you are only bringing one pair, make sure they're killer!
