You’re thinking about a boudoir portrait session…maybe, sort of, one day…but you’d like a little more information on what to wear – the absolute boudoir outfit essentials.

The great news is that when you come for your pre session chat, we’ll go through all of this, plus we also have a complete lingerie guide to send you but hey, forewarned is forearmed so if you’re the type who likes to get everything ready well in advance, here’s what you’ll need.

1.A GREAT BRA

I’ve covered this in detail already in another post, so I won’t go into it all again (just click on the title above) – suffice it to say that whether you love your body or were hoping to get away with being as covered up as possible, a fab bra will be the mainstay of your session (and, I’ll let you into a secret – these are the images you are going to love the most, even if you’re firmly in the ‘does a onesie count as lingerie’ camp).

2.AT LEAST ANOTHER TWO OUTFITS

I realise that’s a little bit vague!  I can’t tell you precisely what these need to be because it’s going to vary according to your confidence level, and also according to the style of portraits you want.
However – if you hate your stomach, you need to bring along at least one outfit with more coverage – check out this post on corsets versus basques to understand the difference.
So, corsets, basques, babydolls – these will all add more coverage (with babydolls, stick to ones with cups if you need support).
There’s also a variety of ‘stretchy lacy dresses’ around – these can be great for covering arms (in case, like me, you are conscious of ‘bingo wings’), as well as other parts of ourselves we all don’t like. A great fave here is the Britney Dress from Ann Summers – it can also be worn with a black bra under it and still looks great.

3.CHEEKY OR BRAZILIAN CUT KNICKERS

For images from behind, you want that ‘in between’ look – not a thong, but not a full knicker either – something with a little bit of shape to it is what’s needed here. You don’t necessarily need a bra to match for images from behind – you could be topless for these if your front isn’t visible.

4.KILLER HEELS

Not flats, preferably not shoe boots, not wedges and not chunky heels. The more vertiginous your heels, the better, so if you look at them and think “I can’t wear those, I’ll break an ankle” then they’re exactly the type of shoes to bring.
Got any you’d describe as ‘stripper shoes’? They’re likely to be perfect.

5.STOCKINGS/HOLD UPS

Fishnets always look fab, as do sheer black stockings and hold ups. If you have neither, and are buying new, it’s ok to stick to stockings to avoid that annoying ‘digging in’ thing that hold ups can do.

There are plenty of other items you might want to bring along to your session, but these are your boudoir outfit essentials (if you’ve had a boudoir portrait session with us and think I have missed something, do let me know and I’ll add it in!).

Much love
Anna
xx
