Makeover make up – natural or something new?

Having your hair and make up professionally done can be such a treat - and in some cases easier to think about than your portrait session itself!

If you don't tend to wear much make up on a day to day basis, it can be difficult to know what sort of 'look' you might want to go for. In fact, it can be difficult to think of a makeover make up 'look' at all, especially if you never usually wear any.

At your pre session chat I'll show you a couple of different make up options to start with. I only show a couple because it can very soon get overwhelming to look at lots of different options and then try to work out what you think will suit you.  Once you've started to think about it though it can be a great idea, between your chat and your session, to set up a Pinterest board and start pinning different ideas you've seen.

Always bear in mind that our stylists will never create a look that won't work for you, so anything you are drawn to can be adapted by them to suit your eye shape, face shape and colouring.

Choosing between natural make up or a stronger look

Firstly - do you usually wear make up?
If you never wear any, or only wear the bare minimum, then choosing a makeover make up look can seem quite daunting.  Consider whether you want to look drastically different in your photos?

A strong make up look can have its advantages - looking different can make some women feel like they're taking on a role or character, and this gives them the confidence to step into the studio. However, you want to look at your photos and know it's you.

If you go drastically different it could give you a disconnect between yourself and the image of you in your photos. If you think this could be the case for you, keep things natural.

A natural make up look is all about enhancing your features, and will still bring out your eyes and make them look amazing - you'll look like you, but on a really good day!

If you want to try something different, consider adding a subtle smokey eye to your look.

Adding a more intense lip colour is also an instant way transform a look.

If you're used to wearing make up, and subtle is not your thing then you can really go for it with your makeover look - it's definitely a chance to go for something you would find hard to create for yourself at home (and you can pick up some tips from your stylist as you go).

Stronger smokey eyes, eyeliner flicks and red lips are always popular looks.

Between your chat and your portrait session, you can change your mind as many times as you want to about what makeover make up look you'd like to go for - you can even tear a picture from a magazine or show your stylist an image on your phone on the day of your session.

And if that all sounds like too much to think about, just leave it to us!

Much love,
